OGSG Sets Up Committee To Review Amosun's Appointments, Promotion Of Monarchs

ABEOKUTA - The Ogun State Government on Friday set up a committee to review appointments, installations and promotions of traditional rulers made by the immediate past Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun towards the end of his administration.

Amosun, at the tail end of his administration appointed and promoted 75 baales (village heads) to Coronet Obas.

But the State House of Assembly led by the Speaker, Hon. Suraj Adekunbi at a plenary session last Friday passed a resolution to reverse their appointments.

The Chief Press Secretary to the State Governor, Mr. Kunle Somorin in a statement in Abeokuta listed the members of the review committee as, Oba Kehinde Olugbenle, (chairman), Oba Yinusa  Adekoya, Oba Adewale Osiberu and Chief Yinka Kufile.

Others are, Mr. Babajide Oyeti and Mr. Lanre Osota,  Permanent Secretary Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs (secretary).

According to the statement, the terms of reference of the Committee are:

“To identify all the Obas and Chiefs whose appointments or promotions fall within the review period as contained in the recent resolution of the Ogun State House of Assembly.”

“To determine on a case-by-case basis whether such appointment or  promotion is in accordance with extant laws of Ogun State and due process.”

“To identify and address any other issue(s) that the committee may consider relevant to its assignments.”

“And to make appropriate recommendations as deemed necessary to the Government.”
