How We Eradicated Cultism In Ilaro Poly - Rector

ABEOKUTA - The Rector, Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro, Arc. Olusegun Olanrewaju Aluko has attributed strict enforcement of the polytechnic's guidelines and rules to the eradication of cultism and other social vices on the campus. 

The Rector stated this on Tuesday at a press briefing heralding the 40th anniversary of the establishment of the polytechnic.

Arc. Aluko stated that, enforcement of dress code on the students and regular counselling on attitudinal change also contributed to the peaceful conduct of the students on campus. 

He explained that, prompt release of results allow the students to know their studentship status without overstaying on campus. 

"The reason we have not been in the news on any cult related activities was as a result of our strict compliance of the polytechnic's rules on the students. Once the students were given admission, we give them the handbook which contains the rules and regulations of the school. 

"Again, we have ensure that, we release the results of our students six weeks after writing their examinations to allow them know if they're qualified to be our students without unnecessary loitering on the school campus. 

"We also ensure that, we engage our students in regular counselling on their dress code and behaviour within and outside the campus. For instance, you cannot be a banking and finance students of the polytechnic and wear crazy jeans to the lecture room. That's not how bankers dressed. These are moral values we inculcate in our students".

Arc. Aluko added that, the 40th anniversary which kicked off on the 3rd of April, 2019 with the commissioning of founding fathers billboard will end on October 16, 2019 with conferment of award on the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi and past rectors of the institution. 

Speaking on his achievements, Arc. Aluko said within five years at the helms of affairs of the institution, about 44 staff had attended International conference and 84 local conferences, while 34 staff are currently running their Masters and Ph.D programmes within and outside the country. 

He added that, 296 staff have been recruited since he took charge of the polytechnic, and about 15 additional academic programmes added to the existing 19 programmes. 

He further enumerated his achievements to include, construction of 500 seater auditorium for school of Management studies, studio and workshop for school of environmental studies, construction of studio and laboratories for Mass communication department, procurement of Tools and equipments for Art and Design department.

Others include construction of workshop and animal husbandry complex for school of agricultural science, twin 250 capacity lecture theatre, procurement of equipments for school of engineering, mechanical, Electrical and Civil departments, Tourism village for department of leisure and tourism department, supply of musical instruments for music department.
