Ogun Photographers Promise To Assist Govt On Job Creation

Michael-Azeez Ogunsiji
ABEOKUTA - The Ogun State Professional photographers and video coverage Operators Association, OGSPPAVAN, has said that they are ready to partner with the state government to reduce the rate of  unemployment in the state.

The Association noted that they would solve unemployment issue by partnering with the government in training unemployed youths in the art of photography.

The state president, Asiwaju Obileye disclosed this while marking the World Photography Day on Monday  held at the NUJ Secretariat, Abeokuta, Ogun State.

Obileye, maintained that unemployment is a major problem for government, adding that, vocational trainers should be engaged to eradicate the menace.

''To actually tackle this problem on unemployment, this question can best be answered by governors because unemployment is a physical problem for governors but if they know they want to tackle it, vocational trainers like us should be invited so that we will know what we are supposed to do in breaching unemployment",He said.

"What we are celebrating today is no limited to Ogun state alone, it's being celebrated world wide. That is the reason it was tagged 'World Photography Day'. It is being celebrated all over the world on this day 19th of August''

''This day is set aside for photographers all over the world to organize seminars, educate and get ourselves more informed. As you know, we are in the world of technology, no one wants to be left behind, this is why we have to get close our people update and motivate them," He said.

The president also noted that professional photographers face a lot of challenges.

''We face a lot of challenges that we can not tell all. Let us look at the economic situation of the country. If you want to buy a very good camera now, you have to buy at least #90,000, even some are sold at #1,000,000, that is why you see the trainees going back to ride bikes and the rest. Another is that, we have so many  scavenger photographers, ruffians. They go to parties to harass people, they snap without been told to do so and they begin to fight around".

  1. This will really go a long way only if the Ogun state govt can see to it as one of opportunities to eradicate unemployment in the state. The earlier the better. Thanks

“A good photograph is one that communicates a fact, touches the heart and leaves the viewer a changed person for having seen it. It is, in a word, effective.”
