Ogun Tribunal: Labour Party Heads To Supreme Court

ABEOKUTA - The Ogun State Chapter of Labour Party has appealed the Ogun State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal judgement on the relisting of its application at the Supreme Court.

Labour Party had on 21st June, 2019 prayed the tribunal to relist its petition for hearing.

But the Tribunal panel headed by Justice Halilu Yusuf dismissed the party's application for lack of jurisdiction, saying it has become functus-officio to hear.

The party, dissatisfied with the tribunal ruling of 13th July, 2019 headed to the he Appeal Court which was also dismissed on 16th August, 2019.

However, LP has filed a notice of appeal before the Supreme Court against the decision of the court of Appeal.

Speaking on the new motion, the LP chairman in the state, Abayomi Arabambi said,  " it become very important to set the record straight for the benefit of members of the public who may not be in the know. Our attention has been drawn to the news making round that the Appeal court sitting in Ibadan has dismissed the substantive appeal of the Labour party, Ogun State chapter.

"This position with respect to those speculating same is very  far from the truth. What was dismissed by the learned justices of the Court of Appeal was the Appeal arising from the application to relist the petition that was earlier dismissed by the Ogun State Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal on the 21st day of June 2019.

"What the  Appeal court dismissed on the 16th of August was the appeal against the decision on the petitioners's motion to relist and has nothing to do with with the substantive appeal which  is stil pending before the Court of Appeal.

"Moreso, immediately the appeal agaisnt decisions to relist was dismissed by the Court of Appeal, the appellants immediately lodged an appeal by filing a notice of appeal before the Supreme court against decision of the Court of Appeal.

"Cosequently,  the notion or insinuation created or dished out to members of the public suggesting  that the substantive appeal by Labour party has been dismissed is entirely false and should be disregarded.

"The people of Ogun state should pray along with us as victory is very imminent towards a new government, that will replace the bunch of economic liquidators holding sway in Prince Dapo Abiodun’s temporary government, who have continue to constitute themselves as grossly incompetent and complete embarrassment to the people of Ogun state."
