It's Needless Legal Battle Going To Appeal Court, Ogun Registered Political Parties Tell Akinlade, APM

Michael-Azeez Ogunsiji
ABEOKUTA - Ogun State Chapter of League of Registered Political Parties has urged the Allied People’s Movement (APM) and its governorship candidate in the March 9 governorship poll, Abdul Kabir Adekunle Akinlade, to shun going to Appeal Court to challenge the tribunal verdict affirming Governor Abiodun as duly elected governor of Ogun State, describing it as needless legal battle.

The parties in a statement jointly signed by the trio of Otunba Mosuro Adebayo, Alhaji Moshood Adesina and Comrade Oginni Olaposi Sunday described the tribunal judgement as enough prove that Ogun State electorate truly voted for Prince Dapo Abiodun without any form of irregularities.

They chided the party and Akinlade for holding the state down unnecessarily for upward of four months, heating up the polity and causing distraction.

The governorship election petitions tribunal sitting in Abeokuta had on Saturday dismissed the petition filed by APM and Akinlade, challenging the election of Governor Dapo Abiodun.

The Yusuf Halilu-led three-man panel described Akinlade’s petitions, while dismissing the petition and upholding Abiodun’s election, declared “the petition is destined to fail; it failed and it is hereby dismissed”.

They said the verdict of the tribunal should be accepted in good faith by Akinlade and his party, noting that the state cannot afford to be held down by unnecessary litigations.

The statement reads in part: “The Ogun State Chapter of The League of Registered Political Parties wish to Sincerely Congratulate His Excellency, Prince Dapo Abiodun on  his hard won Victory at the Election Petition Tribunal headed by Justice Halilu.

"The landmark judgement of the Ogun Governorship Tribunal is an enough prove that Ogun State electorates truly voted for Prince Dapo Abiodun on the 9th of March 2019 without any form of irregularities.

"The League of Registered Political Parties also applauds the efforts of the trio of Chief Yemi Sanusi, Hon Ayo Olubori and Hon Tunde Oladunjoye of Ogun APC who against all odds worked for the Party and  Prince Dapo Abiodun to achieve unprecedented success at the polls.

"In the working relationship of The League with APC Leadership in the State, we  can remarkably say it Loud and clear that the Ogun APC caretaker Committee worked hard to ensure that the Electoral  Victory of the 9th of March, 2019 was Secured, Protected and Preserved.

"Consequently, we once again wish to reiterate our position on the aborted and needless Legal battle by calling on our brother Hon Adekunle Akinlade and APM not to go on any appeal. Politics is a game. You loose today, you win tomorrow.

"In the same vein, the support which Prince Dapo Abiodun and APC got from other Political Parties before, during and after the polls should not be taking for granted. The all inclusive Government promised by His Excellency Prince Dapo Abiodun is expected to be implemented to Letters."
