Ihunbo/Idiroko: Ogun Customs Deny Death Of Three Students || ENCOUNTER NEWS

ABEOKUTA - The Ogun State Command 1, has denied killing three students of Ojumo Community Secondary School in Ihunbo along Idiroko area of the state. 

It was reported that, Customs Officers attached to Idiroko command drove recklessly while pursuing smugglers and rammed into the students who were standing by the road side after the closed from school hour and killed them.

But addressing newsmen on Tuesday, the Customs Controller, Ogun Command 1, Mr. Michael Agbara said the tragedy was purely an accident.

Agbara explained that, officers attached to Ogun command who were on routine patrol arrested a Mercedes Benz suspected to have been smuggled into the country.

He added that, in the process of conveying the vehicle driven by an officer of the service fully escorted by official patrol vehicle, a motorcyclist crossed into moving patrol convoy.

The Customs boss further stressed that, the Customs operative had swerved to avoid collision with the motorcyclist,  but lost control of the wheels and rammed into some group of people including the students.

He said unfortunately, one of the victims was a 20year-old, Opeyemi Odusina, a student of Ojumo Community secondary school who died instantly while three people sustained various degrees of injuries.

"On a very sad note, we have unfortunate incident yesterday which led to the loss of live of one brilliant Nigerian, a student of Ojumo Community Secondary school, through a motor accident involving my men.

"I want to condole with the family officially and express my sympathy wholeheartedly to the school management. We are indeed very sorry to what happened.

"My officers entered the bush at about 1:30pm on Monday ,one of my patrol teams went to the bush where the smugglers ply their trade and a 2016 Mercedes Benz was arrested in the bush and they successfully brought the car out of the bush to the main road to come to Idiroko where our warehouse is.

"Along the line, one Okada drove and passed through their front suddenly , but to avoid crushing the Okada man,  the driver swerved and lost control and the vehicle unfortunately hit three people, out of which I regret to announce that, one Opeyemi Odusina lost his live at the scene, while three others were injured."
