Attempt To Illegalize Amotekun Will Lead To War, Break Up - Yoruba Youths Group Warns AGF, FG

Michael-Azeez Ogunsiji
ABEOKUTA - Yoruba Youths Assembly has condemned the disposition of the federal government towardsthe establishment of south west security network, Operation Amotekun describing it as deliberate attempt to undermine the safety of the people.

The Yoruba group equally bemoaned the insensitivity of President Muhammadu Buhari to the security challenges in the south west states.

The group in statement jointly signed by all the southwest coordinators however declared its support for the successful operation of the outfit.

They described the statement credited to the northern group, Myetti Allah linking the security structure to politics as an height of aberration.

They said the creation of the security structure is necessary in the wake of insurgency, kidnapping, highway robbery, ritual activities, and banditry which makes the southwest region unsafe.

"The recent pronouncement by the Anthony General of the federation, Abubakar Malami, to us, is an evidence that the northerners are truly and deliberately behind insecurity across the country.

"This federal government stand also shows that the President Muhammadu Buhari is only interested in securing the northerners and not really concerned about what happens to other regions.

"If not, why would he not raise eyebrows against the already existing securities operating in the north and would be all out to quash our own security in the south. We would stop at nothing to ensure that the Southwest security network codenamed as 'Amotokun' works in the Yoruba speaking states.

"As the umbrella body of all Yoruba youths in the southwest, we are using this medium to tell the Federal Government and Anthony General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami to withdraw there threat on the Yoruba Governors and allow the smooth operation of Amotekun and the AGF should must apologize to Yoruba people for attempting to block the security of our people.

"We believe we are not wrong when we organized a group that will protect the lives and properties of our people. Because we won't wait till insurgency, kidnapping, highway robbery, ritual activities and banditry make our territory unsafe for us all.

"For us, we want our people to be able to sleep comfortably with their two eyes closed  under there own roof and not as  displaced Persons as common  in the Northern Nigeria, hence, Amotekun has come to stay."
