National Assembly Election Rerun: Police Restrict Movement In Ogun LGAs

ABEOKUTA - Following the National Assembly rerun election in Ijebu-Ode Federal constituency, the Ogun State Police command has restricted human and vehicular movements in three local government areas.

The affected three local governments are Ijebu North, Ijebu-Ode and Odogbolu.

The rerun election followed a court of appeal verdict on a petition filed by Poeples Democratic Party (PDP) House of Representatives candidate, Taiwo Shote challenging APC National Assembly lawmaker, Hon. Kolapo Osunsanya.

Recall that the National Assembly Election Petitions Tribunal had on 9th of September, 2019, declared that Osunsanya was not duly elected and nullified the Certificate of Return issued to him by INEC.

The tribunal also ordered that a rerun should be conducted within 90 days in Ward 5, Unit 5 in Ijebu Ode Local Government Area; Ward 10, Unit 3 in Odogbolu Local Government Area and the entire Ward 8 in Ijebu North East Local Government Area.

But the police in a release on Friday signed by the PPRO, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi said "In view of a re-run election coming up on Saturday 25th of January 2020 in three local government areas of Ijebu-North, Odogbolu and Ijebu-ode, the Ogun State Police Command wishes to inform the general public that there is going to be restriction of human and vehicular movements in the areas affected only.

"For the purpose of clarity, the affected areas are as follows: Lagos garage motor-park Ijebu-Ode, UNA primary school Ijebu-ode, Adeola Road Ijebu-Ode, Ayesan area Ijebu-Ode.

Others are Odonselu market-Odogbolu, Ilese Ward 8, Ilese road to central mosque via NNPC, Ilese junction to Erunwon, From Army Barrack Ilese junction to Ijebu-Ode".

The command therefore urged members of the public to adhere strictly with the rules guiding electioneering process as anybody who caught flouting any electoral law will be made to feel the full weight of the laws.

It urged those who have nothing doing with the election should stay away from the area where election is being conducted because the command will not tolerate any act capable of jeopardizing the smooth conduct of the election.
