Ogun Government Calls For Calm Over Influx Of Okada Operators From Lagos

ABEOKUTA - Ogun state government has dismissed fear of mass movement of commercial motorcycle riders popularly known as Okada riders to the state following the ban on commercial motorcycle operators in Lagos State.

The Chairman, Transportation Committee in Ogun state, Barr. Olufemi Adeniyi disclosed that, the committee has put in place measures to prevent the influx of Okada into the state from Lagos. 

Barr. Adeniyi noted that, the ban on commercial motorcyclists by Lagos state government has forced the operators to move to neighbouring state including Ogun state. 

He explained that, the state government has noticed the influx of the Okada riders to major cities of the state, calling on residents and other commercial motorcyclists in the state to remain calm and be accommodating as the state government would monitor their movement. 

He therefore warned that the state government would not condone any form indiscpline or recklessness by any motorcyclist to cause unrest in the state.

"In connection with the prevalent situation in Ogun State concerning the motor bikes, and the infux of motorcycle riders from Lagos State into our dear state, we as a responsible and responsive government has been inundated  with calls from the general public and we have also listened to the mass media concerning the position of Lagos State on the ban on Okada in Lagos metropolis.

"We noticed that most commercial riders have left their place of trade from Lagos down to the neighbouring towns which happen to be within Ogun State. The most concerned areas are Alagbole, Akute ajuwon, Ojodu Berger, Mowe ibafo and Ogijo axis. Where we notice the influx of this okada riders even to Shagamu and Ijebu-Ode, Sango-Ota and other areas.

"We plead with our people to be law abiding and very accommodating. We need to trend with little caution concerning this influx of the Okada riders."

"At the same time, we need to let the Okada riders that are just coming in that, the agents of darkness amongst them not to display their talent in Ogun State. We wouldn't want any Okada riders to take laws into his hands or to take the opportunity commit crime in Ogun state. 

"We appeal to all of them to work ammuniously with those they met on ground and make sure that they always pay their obligations and make sure that work within the ambit of the law."
