Ogun West Deserves Development Commission - Akinwande

Gov. Abiodun
ABEOKUTA - President of the Gbenga Akinwande Foundation (GAF) Gbenga Akinwande has appealed to Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun to initiate a bill for the establishment of the Ogun West Development Commission (OGWDC).

Akinwande, in a letter to the governor, said the bill is necessary due to current prevailing socio-economic challenges in Ogun West Senatorial District, following years of neglect and deprivation by successive governments.

The letter reads: “I would like to remind Your Excellency that the last time Ogun West had a fair stake was during the administration of Aremo Olusegun Osoba (between 1999 and 2003), where there was fair distribution of resources in reasonable proportions.

But since 2003 till date, Ogun West has been short-changed and sidelined by successive administrations in infrastructure development, civil service employment and political appointments.” he said.

The commission, Akinwande said, would report directly to the Office of the Governor. He also recommended that the agency should be funded with up to N5 billion yearly per local government in the next five years.

“This special grant should not have any effect on the usual annual budgetary allocation to Ogun West, but rather such funds will help to provide social amenities and infrastructures that are lacking in the zone,” he added.
