ABEOKUTA - A Magistrate Court sitting in Abeokuta, the Ogun state capital on Thursday remanded about 27 suspected criminals arrested in connection with the crisis that sparked about six communities in the state.

The suspects were among the over 150 criminals arrested by the operatives of Ogun State Police command who terrorized, Ifo, Alagbole, Akute and other communities in the state.

The counsel to the respondents, I.A Opayemi had earlier prayed the court to remand the accused in the Nigerian Correctional Service custody pending the hearing of their case.

The accused were brought to the court 3 on charges based on disruption of public peace, vandalisation of government property, robbery and cultism.

But the Senior Magistrate, Oke Olakuleyi said following the dreaded disease, COVID-19 which has ravaged the world, and in order not to over populate the Correctional service, he ordered that the suspects should be remanded in the police custody.

Magistrate Olakuleyi therefore fixed June 11, 2020 for hearing of their case.
