ABEOKUTA - Former Local Government Chairmen across the country have commended Rivers State Governor, Barr. Nyesom Wike for providing succour to the entire people of the state during the lockdown occasioned by the COVID 19 pandemic.

The Ex-Chairmen under the umbrella of Association of Ex-Local Government Chairmen of Nigeria (ASELGON) noted with satisfaction, the unveiling new buses by the governor on Thursday, to convey people within the state free of charge.

This, according to a press release jointly signed by the National President, Hon. Albert Asipa and National Secretary, Hon. Sahabo Aliyu Gurin, the former council administrators, commended Governor Wike for putting the interest of his people uppermost in his heart.

ASELGON urged Governor's critics to pay a visit to Rivers State for an on-the-spot assessment of his people-oriented projects which dot the entire landscape.

The association, however, advised the governor not to relent on his efforts to provide basic amenities to his people as this would continue to linger on after leaving office as governor.

The group noted with pride that Governor Wike as a former local government chairman in the state had brought his experience at the grassroots level to bear in state governance.

In another development, ASELGON has sent a condolence message to the governor on the demise of Hon. Odian Princewill, who until his death was the chairman of Asari Toru Local Government Area of Rivers State.

Describing the death of Hon. Princewill as a great loss, not only to Rivers State governor and the deceased's immediate family, but to ALGON generally, the association prayed that God Almighty gave the family the strength to bear the painful and irreparable loss.
