ABEOKUTA - National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) South West Zone has berated a section of the students led by the National President,National Association of Ogun state students, NAOSS, Ogunrombi Gbemileke, over his call for the probe of the formal governor of the state, Senator Ibikunle Amosun.

The Southwest leaders of the zone spoke through the Deputy Coordinator of the zone, Com. Oladimeji Uthman Danfodio, in a statement made available to journalists in Abeokuta on Tuesday.

The deputy Coordinator lamented the involvement of some 'acclaimed' students in Ogun state adding that as the authentic students leaders in the zone , NANS has nothing to do with politics and a result didn't call for the probe of the former Governor.

The Deputy Coordinator also indicted the Governor's special assistant on students affairs, Com. Azeez Adeyemi,  saying he has information about the dept of the his involvement in the said release.

His words, "Our attention has been drawn to an unintelligent, unnecessary and out of box interference in partisan politics by some group of students in Ogun State.

"The acclaimed students under the guise of National Association of Ogun State Students (NAOSS) deviated totally from activism into partisan politics by calling for the probe of the former Governor of Ogun State and Senator representing Ogun Central at the National Assembly, Senator Ibikunle Amosun CON, FCA by HE Dapo Abiodun's administration, the purpose of which was purely to heat up the polity in the state.

"The acclaimed student leaders in an unintelligent and frivolous manner are demanding for the probe of contracts awarded by the past government of Senator Ibikunle Amosun in Ogun State despite having no meaningful claims or evidence to back their calls.

"We wish to state unequivocally that National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) South West Zone remains the umbrella body and the mouthpiece for all students studying  in any Southwestern states of the country and it is our resolve that Students Union leaders are to steer clear of politics especially taking side to heat up polity in any state at the detriment of our colleagues (students).

"Indeed, we hereby appeal to His Excellency, Governor Dapo Abiodun MFR to call his SA on Students Matters, Com. Adeyemi Azeez to order before he turns students to political thugs for his hatchet jobs thereby defacing students activism in the state. Further attempts shall be aggressively resisted in legal ways including march to the Governor's office to register our displeasure.

"Prince (Dr.) Dapo Abiodun MFR must understand that power is transient and should beware of the political praise singers in his government who are ready to flirt when the chips are down.

"We wish the Students-Friendly Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun the best of luck likewise the Governors of all Southwestern states in Nigeria (Lagos, Oyo, Ekiti, Ondo, Osun) and our Leader and Father, President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR.

"Conclusively, we implore Nigerian Students across all South Western States and Nigeria at large to continue to stay safe while this pandemic last. By God's grace, we shall surely overcome this trying moment.

"We therefore, call on the general public to dispel their mischievous, sponsored and anti-activism call to create unnecessary crisis within the All Progressives Congress in the state and in order to enhance recognition before the Governor for monetary gains but at the detriment of Nigerian Students".

Damfodio however begged the government to find a lasting solution for academic activities to return to campuses.

"We wondered how the COVID-19 pandemic that has crippled businesses and academics activities across the country with Ogun State on partial lockdown is not their concern except politics at this trying moment.

"Furthermore, we hereby appeal to the Federal Government, Minister for Education, all South Western State Governments to find a lasting solution to this pandemic as our life as students is currently mortgaged. Our female students are been raped while the younger female students are getting pregnant daily. We call on Government at all levels to lay down procedures on re-opening of our educational institutions otherwise we proffer a lasting solution as leaders of Nigerian Students in South West because education is the bedrock of a Nation".
