ABEOKUTA - The Chairman, Transition Committee Abeokuta South Local Government, Hon. Ayodeji Michael Shomide has enjoined motorcycle riders popularly known as Okada in the local government to take precautionary measures while seeking for their daily incomes.

The council boss stated this on Friday while addressing representatives of the union riders comprising Amalgamated Commercial Owners Riders' Association of Nigeria (ACOMORAN), Amalgamated Motorcycles Owners and Riders' Association of Nigeria (AMORAN) and Riders Owner Motorcycle Organisation (ROMO) visited the council on speculations that the council is on the move to levy them again.

Shomide who was represented by the Secretary to the local government, Alhaji Nurudeen Ayorinde explained to the union leaders, that the local government was not in any move to impose another levy on them, but to sensitize the organized union riders within the jurisdiction of the local government.

He said, the move became imperative following the riders nonchalant behaviours towards shunning the use of facemasks and two passengers or more on a motorcycle.

According to him, "health is what they say is wealth" pressed further that the local government only wants to enforce the organized union riders to use facemasks and to preserve the Riders from the spread of novel Coronavirus that is ravaging and pervading the world."
