RAPE: Fola Achudume Calls For Punitive Measures Against Culprits

Rev. Fola Achudume

Michael-Azeez Ogunsiji
ABEOKUTA - Worried by the rising cases of sexual Violence in the country, the  President of Royal Ladies International, a Non Governmental Organisation, Reverend Fola  Achudume has called on all stakeholders in the country, especially women groups to stand against the menace.

Reverend Achudume while reacting to recent rape cases, said now is the time for all to unite towards putting an end to sexual Violence.

She explained that victims of sexual violence are likely to be traumatised for a lifetime  "as a result of the injuries sustained when molested".

For future prevention, Mrs. Achudume saw the need for parents to  properly bring up their  male children  by educating them on the  dangers associated with molestation of women or the girl child.

She said untrained boys often become irresponsible men who end up assaulting innocent girls and women, urging parents to allow their children to discuss  sexuality with them " so that they do not end up in wrong hands".

While charging the authorities to introduce drastic measures to punish rape offenders, the President of the Royal ladies international posited that the victims should not be isolated or made to bear the  psychological and social trauma alone.

Revd  Achudume also appealed to the media and other stakeholders to embark on anti-sexual  assault programmes, stressing that " nobody deserved to be raped".
