ABEOKUTA - The National Association of Seadogs (a.k.a Pyrates Confraternity), Abeokuta Ogun state Chapter in partnership with their Americana 1 (Houston Texas) branch of the Association took to the streets this week, as part of their public awareness and enlightenment campiagn on the COVID-19 disease which has assumed the status of a pandemic.

Worried by the growing spread of the virus and the rising cases of infection in Nigeria, members of the Association began a sensitization campaign to call the attention of Nigerians to the reality of the virus and the danger it poses for human survival.

The Association’s head in Abeokuta, Ogun State, Mr. Steve Oliyide expressed the concern of the Association that “despite the threat pose by the virus, many Nigerians are not convinced about its existence and as a result do not take serious all necessary preventive measures put in place by government and other institutions.

“It is appalling that a lot Nigerians out there still do not believe in the existence of the virus and they go about their businesses unbothered about the risks involved.

“We therefore take this responsibility upon ourselves to sensitive the people especially to underscore the importance and compliance with the COVID-19 preventive measures put in place by government.

“We are also using this medium to call on government to be more aggressive on its information and orientation programs and to enforce its own rules”.

Members of the Association were seen on the streets of Ota, Abeokuta and Ifo, with various banners with inscriptions including “COVID-19 is Real” etc.

The focus of the enlightenment campaign was on the fact that COVID-19 is real, and adequate measures are needed to be taken in order to stay safe and clean from the deadly virus.
