Ogun To Provide Free Data For Students To Enhance Digiclass Participation - Abiodun

ABEOKUTA - The Ogun state government is intensify efforts to improve on the participation of digital class by primary and secondary school students in the state. 

The state government had during the lockdown occasioned by the pandemic introduced the digital class for primary and secondary schools students in the state to aid learning as schools were shutdown as a result of the spread of covid-19.

The State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun said the government is discussing with the telecommunication service providers to allow students have free data to participate in the digicalss. 

The Governor disclosed this on Monday at International Students' Day Celebration held at the June 12, Cultural Centre,  Kuto, Abeokuta. 

Abiodun who was represented by the state Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu noted that, the digicalss was to leverage on the emerging technologies to help the students discover their purpose, unleash their potentials and build their future.

He said the state government is working on modalities to improve on the digiclass and ensure that more students participate in the tele-tutoring. 

He therefore announced that, the state government will soon begin bursary payment to all the state's students within and outside Ogun state and give scholarship to students who excel in their academic activities and indigent students.

"About 956 schools are currently undergoing renovation and rehabilitation across the state. Some have been completed while some are still ongoing. This administration place alot of importance on education.

"The state government pays regularly running cost to heads of schools to run the schools properly in order not to levy the students unnecessarily. Our government has embarked on promotions of teachers. We have cleared backlog of promotions from 2015, 2016, 2017 to make the teachers comfortable and alive to their responsibilities."

He however, called on philanthropists and corporate organizations to key into the adopt school initiative by adopting a school in their localities and rehabilitate them.

Speaking on the theme of the celebration: "Harnessing The Articulacy and Vibrancy of Nigeria Student Leaders for Larger Politics", the Special Assistant to the Governor on Students Matters, Mr. Adeyemi Azeez said this year's celebration was to harness the potentials of the students into the larger polity.

Adeyemi noted that, the current administration led by Governor Dapo Abiodun has maintained a very good relationship with the students and recognized students as partners in progress. 

He added that, the celebration was to mentor the students and prepare them for future responsibilities and improve on the good legacies laid by the forebearers.

"This gathering target to mentor our students and spur them into critical understanding of the level of preparedness they should attain to sustain and improve on the good legacies of our forebearers in the political atmosphere. 

"We must tow the path and impact the larger society. This feat will be achieved by actively participating in the various sessions of these engagements to be handled by persons of notable leadership acumen like His Excellency, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, the former governor of Ogun State, among many others."
