Ogun Sports Writers Commend Abiodun For Elevating Iyabo Rotimi As Sports Director

ABEOKUTA - The Ogun State Chapter of Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) has applauded the state governor Prince Dapo Abiodun for appointing Mrs. Folakemi Iyabode Rotimi as the new Director of Sports, Ogun State Sports Council.

Governor Abiodun had on  Wednesday through the State Head of Service, Alhaja Selimot Ottun confirmed Mrs. Rotimi as the Chief Executive/Chief Accounting Officer of the State Sports Council.

Mrs. Rotimi until her elevation was the acting Director of Sports since April, 2020.

But SWAN in a press release signed by its Secretary in the state, Michael-Azeez Ogunsiji said Mrs. Rotimi elevation was long overdue and would redefine the face of sports development in the state.

Ogunsiji described Mrs. Rotimi is an astute sports administrator and a professional tennis player who has won many laurels for both the state and the country.

The association expressed confidence in the new Sports Director stressing that, her promotion would further improve sports development in the state.

The sports writers therefore enjoined her to bring her professional expertise to bear in repositioning the dwindling glory of sports in the state especially athletics.

'Aunty Iyabo' has fondly called joined the Civil Service in 1989 as an NCE Teacher and in 1996 bagged a Bachelor Degree in Education in Physical and Health Education.

Similarly, in a release by the Head of PR/Information Unit,  Ogun State Sports Council, Bola Giwa, the new Sports Director had Master of Education in Sports Administration in 2012.

She transferred her service to the Sports Council in 1999 as a Principal Coach being an Higher Diploma holder in coaching in 2001 and rose to the rank of Coaching in July 2017.

Mrs. Rotimi is a professional tennis player, volleyball player and Darter who has represented the state and the country and won laurels both National and International level.

She is a member of Nigeria Tennis Federation as a Technical Official and Tennis Umpire.
