ASUSS Chairman Donates Textbooks To Secondary School Students In Ogun


ABEOKUTA - An English teacher with Ipara Community High School, Ipara Remo, Mr. Seun Agbesanwa on Tuesday donated 80 English Language and Mathematics textbooks to some indigent students of the school.


Agbesanwa who is the Chairman of Academic Staff Union of Secondary Schools (ASUSS) Remo North local government said that, the kind gesture was borne out of the need to complement efforts of the state government in providing qualitative education for the residents of the state.


According to Agbesanwa "we all know that education is our major industry in Ogun State, and so whatever we can all do to support our younger ones, especially those that are less privileged would really go a long way to build a glorious future for our dear state and the country at large".


Agbesanwa has however thanked all those who supported him in the philanthropic gesture praying the good Lord bless them in return.


Speaking at the event, the President of All Nigeria Confederation of Principals of Secondary Schools (ANCOPSS) Ogun State, Dr Olubunmi Womiloju lauded the donor for his selflessness saying that it was very thoughtful of him to have considered deploying his hard earned resources to advance qualitative education in the state.


Dr. Womiloju has equally urged parents to show more commitment to the education of their children saying that "you brought these children to the world and the responsibility is on you to take care of their education for a better tomorrow. May the good Lord preserve these children and may our labour over them never be in vain".


Alhaji Ramon Korede, the Principal General for Remo Division also commended Past Agbesanwa for his philanthropic activities while also urging the students to get more serious with their studies saying "if you are not educated, you may end up as slaves, it is on this note that I appreciate the investment of this donor in critical sector as education and it is my prayers that the good Lord will replenish his purse".


Meanwhile, Ogun state government through a letter from the Ministry of Education dated February 16 and signed by Mr Akinsolu, Director of Senior Secondary Schools, commended Past Agbesanwa for deeming it fit to support the education of these children saying that the selfless acts would no doubt impact positively on the desire of the present administration in the state to let every child has access to qualitative education.


Other dignitaries at the event were the Zonal Education Officer for Remo North local government, Mr Olufemi Joseph , Remo North Education Zonal Secretary, Mr Jimoh Yesiru, the National Secretary of the school's Old Students Association, Mr Olayiwola, the School Principal Mr Kumapayi Adeolu, the Vice Principal, Mr Adebayo Kayode , Assistant Pastor in-charge of RCCG, Ogun Province 8, Pastor Abiodun Adeyemi, the wife of the donor, Past Mrs Funmi Agbesanwa and parents of the beneficiaries.
