FMC Abeokuta Launches Electronic Medical Record System

ABEOKUTA - Federal Medical Centre, Idi-Aba, Abeokuta has introduced  an Electronic Medical Records(EMR)  into the  Centre’s operations  for optimal and efficient  health care delivery services.

This new system replaces the old analogue mode of record keeping and accessing health care services which is commonly associated with lots  of bottlenecks.

A statement by the head of Public Relations at the Centre, Segun Orisajo said patients were seen, drugs were prescribed, laboratory and radiological investigations were ordered using the new EMR system.

When THE ENCOUNTER NEWS visited the hospital, scores of patients were spotted  at the General Out–Patients Department (GOPD) being attended to using the new system.

In an interview, some of the patients commended the Medical Director, Prof. Adewale Musa-Olomu for introducing the EMR system which they described as long over due.

“I must commend the leadership of the Centre for this laudable project which has reduced drastically the patients waiting time," declares a patient who would not want his name to be mentioned.

Also contributing, a staff at the Health records department commended  the Management for  the initiative stressing that the new system had reduced the time, rigorous and cumbersome process of searching for patients’ case notes.

Speaking at the end of an assessment visit to some thematic areas, the Medical Director, Prof. Musa-Olomu expressed delight with the successful take off of the MR at the Centre, describing it as one of his vision when he took over the mantle of leadership at the Centre in 2017.

“It gladdens my heart that at last, we were able to achieve this laudable EMR  which was one of the innovations I planned to introduce into our services when we came on board in 2017.

“I wish to assure our teeming patients that the present administration at the Centre is working tirelessly to ensure that they get the best medical services under a conducive working environment.”
