ABEOKUTA – The Ilaro branch of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Yewa Bar, has began the distribution of welfare packages to members of the association.
This is in commemoration of the Ramadan and Lenthen seasons being observed simultaneously for the second year running.
The association under the chairmanship of Chief Israel Oluwatowo Talabi Esq, has always made the welfare of its members, especially at such periods, a top priority of its executive.
In a press statement issued by the publicity secretary of the association on Tuesday, Mr. Lawal Jibola Orisadare, the Ilaro NBA has commenced the implementation of the welfare packages.
In his words, “Whereas, it has been the tradition of the Ilaro NBA, Yewa Bar, to attend to the welfare of members, we pay exceptional attention to the religious seasons.
“Since few days ago, the Welfare Secretary, Mrs. Doyinsola Ibikunle-Adigun began collation of the items to be distributed and having concluded that assignment, the actual distribution started yesterday and all members will receive the packages over the next few days”.
According to him, “We do this yearly in order to encourage ourselves and breed more unity and love among members. We ensure that this welfare model is one of the ways that members get value for being part of the association”.
The Talabi-led association also used the medium to admonish members of the public to adhere to the rule of law and be good citizens during this period and beyond.
The statement stated further, “As lawyers, it is often believed that our preference is for citizens to have reasons to require our services, but then, we are firm believers and promoters of the need for civic responsibility and obedience to the law so that we have a better society that is less toxic”.
The Yewa bar also encouraged government to play its part in enhancing the security and welfare of the people; for that is their primary responsibility as stated in Section 14, subsection 2(b) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended.
